Mt. Meru Hospital, Day 1

Hello friends and loved ones!

Today the Tanzania trio went to the hospital for a short orientation. We met the regional medical officer, who seemed totally suprised to see us and asked why we hadn't given word that we were coming (!), then the general medical officer who was wonderfully friendly and seemed excited for us to start.

After that, we split up: Michelle to OB/GYN, Hailey to pediatrics, Lindsay to surgery. In OB/GYN Michelle was witness to eight successful births. Hailey toured the peds malnutrition, GI, and HIV/TB wards. Lindsay triaged and casted a fracture. And all this before 2:30!

We go home tonight highly motivated to learn as much medicine and kiswahili as we can as fast as we can. Hopefully we will become useful to the staff and patients as time goes on.
